And guess what? Millennials don't feel a need to stay in the U.S. This nomadic generation is willing to look far and wide for the best the world has to offer.

The apartment-searching website Nestpick recently issued a comprehensive list of the best cities around the world for millennials. For its "Millennials Cities Ranking," the company compared thousands of places to come up with a list of top spots. The data points were based on 16 factors, including employment offerings, startup culture, cost of living, gender equality, access to decent healthcare, access to public transportation, internet speed and more. Nestpick also threw in some fun factors, like the price of beer and the number of Apple stores per capita.

Here's the list of the top 50 cities for millennials, along with some surprising stats from the study. Interesting to note is how our country fared: No U.S. city made it into the top 25. At the end of the list, we include the top 10 cities in the United States and how they ranked in the global list.

Top 50 Cities In The World

1. Amsterdam, Netherlands: Not only did this European city rank the highest overall, it also was the top spot for LGBT friendliness, a key factor for millennials, who — as Nestpick points out — are defined by "their tolerant, open and live-and-let-live mindsets." The LGBT friendliness score was based upon data from ILGA Annual Rainbow Report, as well as legislation, acceptance and inclusion.

2. Berlin, Germany: Millennials like to work and play hard, and this city's top ranking for nightlife — based on the number of clubs and the opening times — helped propel Berlin to the upper reaches of the list.

3. Munich, Germany

4. Lisbon, Portugal

5. Antwerp, Belgium

6. Barcelona, Spain

7. Lyon, France: This historic city in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region ranked top for health, meaning access to decent healthcare and fitness options. The health ranking was calculated based on The World Health Report conducted by the United Nations.

23. Auckland, New Zealand

24. Toronto, Canada

25. Bristol, United Kingdom

26. Oslo, Norway: This waterfront city ranked highest for public transportation. The transport score factored in the length of the metro network, the number of metro stops, the length of the tram network and the number of tram lines per capita. It also considered the availability of Uber and the existence of a way to access bike sharing.

27. Marseille, France

28. Madrid, Spain

45. San Francisco, California, United States: Not surprisingly, San Francisco ranked number one for startup score, which was calculated by dividing the population by the total number of startup companies, using business registration data from each individual city. Nestpick divided the number of startups by population to represent how accessible jobs may be for citizens.

46. Athens, Greece

47. Bangkok, Thailand: This Asian metropolis had the number-one employment score, which was calculated based on unemployment data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. (The lowest unemployment rate resulted in the best employment score.) Bangkok also ranked highest for tourism, which Nestpick called an important factor, given that high levels of tourism results in increased numbers of entry level jobs and helps attracts younger crowds — one of the first steps to relocating to a city. The tourism ranking was calculated based on the number of overnight stays in each city for ages 18 to 35 years, using data from the World Tourism Organization.

48. Seville, Spain

49. Granada, Spain

50. Denver, Colorado, United States
